//the south african international tattoo convention 2017 review //

*disclaimer - a little late.

The idea of a room filled with artistic humans & their absolutely stunning pieces of art - thrilled me when I first encountered the adverts for this convention. Six months later, I was receiving my wristband and was about to enter a place filled with anticipation of meeting these wondrous people.
A few steps in and I immediately felt at peace, the vibe was incredible. Booths lined the room, each with their own unique artist. Over 78 artists were present - from nine different continents & each with their own style.

Cape Electric Tattoo

Specializing in bright & traditional tattoos - this shop is by far my favorite place to be. I have previously had the privilege to be tattooed by Gareth Lloyd - my first tattoo ( props to him for being able to keep me calm!) He did an outstanding job - the line work is incredibly delicate & just downright beautiful!

On the day of the convention , I was determined to receive my second tattoo -  a tribute to my late father. I arrived at CET's booth , slightly nervous yet incredibly excited for the buzz of the gun. I was greeted by a wonderful bright smile , but was unfortunately informed that it was best to have the script done in the shop. Once I had explained my reasoning for the script however, the wonderful person who Waldo Del Rocca is, made it his mission to find a bed in order for me to be comfortable whilst receiving my tattoo. I will be forever grateful to Waldo for ensuring that I received my tattoo that day - it meant the world to me

expecto patronum

It was an emotional process receiving my tattoo (not only because the pain was super intense) - Waldo had also tattooed my father previously. It was the bestest & most special way I could've received my tattoo and I was beyond stoked with it. It is delicate and as beautiful as I could have ever dreamed of it being.

It was incredibly interesting to witness the artists in their elements. The amount of beauty & love I experienced just by walking past the various booths was indescribable. My favorite part was definitely checking out the artist's various sketchbooks & stencils - the different styles and techniques were exquisite. Along with the artists present , there were loads of boutiques as well : Frolik, Roastin Records, Frontier Provisions, Bibliophilia, Babette Clothing, Ghost Goods, Touchwood, Moog Machines, Foresight, Striped Horse.

My favorite boutique was definitely Ghost Goods. Greeted with a warm smile and super helpful service, I fell in love with the delicate items. Pins, tote bags, patches, prints - every girl's dream.
Check them out!
